A Zoo Theme

Circle Time

Who is at the zoo?
The camel and the tall giraffe,
The lion and the gnu!
Who is at the zoo?
Who is at the zoo?
The hippo, seal, and monkeys,
Who do a trick or two.
Who is at the zoo?
Who is at the zoo?
I wish, I wish, I wish, I wish,
I wish I were there too!

If I Had To Meet a Gorilla
A gorilla is an animal
That's very big and strong,
It has a wrinkled raisin face
And arms so very long.
If I had to meet a gorilla,
I'll tell you what I'd do.
I'd meet it in the safest place,
I'd meet it in a zoo!

Animals on Grass

Take a graham cracker and spread either peanut butter or green-tinted cream cheese on the top. Stand an animal cracker on the top of the graham cracker.

Zoo Cakes
Make a batch of cupcakes and ice with white frosting. Place an animal cracker on top of each
cupcake and you have a fun afternoon snack.

Music Time The zoo song!

We're going to the zoo. You can come along too.
Ev'ry Saturday we go to the zoo. It's our favorite thing to do.
With our family, my brother and me
Go visit our friends at the zoo. We'll introduce them to you.

Giraffes and kangaroos, bears and lions too, all live in our zoo.
They will welcome you with a how do you do to you.

Who's that over there? Swingin' through the air
Makin' silly sounds and jumping around? Can you-oo guess who?
The monkey says hi to you.

What do I hear now? Such a scary growl.
It's a big cat with stripes down his back. Can you guess who?
The tiger says hello too.

What do I see lookin' down at me with a long stretched out neck?
He's a giraffe and he's the tallest I've ever met.

What have I found? The biggest animal around.
With great big ears and a great big trunk he can make a trumpet sound?
The elephant says "How do you do?"

Fuzzy bears with their paws in the air catching food.
Seals all honkin'; swimming and flapping their fins in the pool.

How the time does fly. We've got to say good-bye.
The zoo is a great place to be. There's so much to see.
I'm glad that we came to the zoo.

Here is one craft idea

Sponge Painted Giraffes
orange construction paper
small sponges or cotton balls
spring-type clothes pegs
styrofoam meat trays for paint
black tempera paint

Cut a giraffe shape out of orange construction paper.  Pour small amounts on black paint into styro trays.  Pinch a sponge or cotton ball with the clothes peg and dip into paint.  Dab spots on the giraffe!
